Alternative Healing

Massage

Even thousands of years ago mankind knew the healing effects of massage. The oldest known work on physiotherapeutic treatment is attributed to the legendary first emperor of China, Shi Huang-di, who ruled around 2,600 BC. About 2,000 years later in Europe, ancient Greek healer Hippocrates, one of the fathers of Western medicine, studied the effect of massage on the human body. He trusted in the power of massage as a method to promote healing and longevity and suggested that all physicians integrate massage into their healing practices.

Chinese Medicine: Eastern Healing

Preventing disease, promoting harmony in the body before disharmony can develop, and seeing the individual in his or her entirety – these are the goals of Traditional Chinese Medicine, or TCM. Business Etiquette

Working with Americans

In a global economy that is both increasingly interdependent and driven by the need for rapid success, making the effort to understand the way business is run and how people in other countries tick, especially one as large and economically powerful as the United States, has never paid off more than it does today. The concept of the ‘American dream’, a phrase known around the world, lies behind the way that many Americans look at their careers.

Japanese Art

Floating Worlds and Other Rarities

Collectors of Japanese art tend to focus on one type of object – one may collect folding screens or netsuke, the miniature carvings used as belt toggles on kimonos, another may develop a fascination for ukiyo-e woodcuts and paintings, while still another may pursue an obsession with sword fittings and armaments or objects related to the tea ceremony. Often these specific interests are a gateway to a broader fascination with the unique qualities of Japanese culture and history.

Búzios, Brazil

Back in the 1600s, fishermen of Armação dos Búzios, a quaint little village 170 km (105 miles) north of Rio de Janeiro, were whale hunting specialists. They built houses along a narrow strip of beach, now called Praia da Armação, that provided secure anchorage for their fishing vessels. From there they caught the whales that would provide the oil to light the town and discarded the waste from the giants on Ossos (Bones), the neighbouring beach. It remained a fairly simple village until three centuries later when Brigitte Bardot "discovered" it while vacationing with her Brazilian boyfriend in the ‘60s.
